In the summer of 2001, a small group of critical care nurses met and identified a need for a local chapter. Our aim was to reach out to critical and acute care nurses in Summit, Stark, Portage and surrounding counties.

The greater Akron Area Chapter recognizes that critically ill patients are cared for in a variety of settings such as ICU, CCU, PACU, ED, telemetry, long term acute care and medical-surgical units. Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and students are just a sampling of the diversity of practitioners that care for the critically ill. Our mission is to provide and inspire leadership, to establish work and care environments that are respectful, healing and humane. The chapter is committed to providing the highest quality resources to maximize nurses’ contributions to caring and improving the healthcare of critically ill patients and their families.

Chapter meetings are held at 5:30pm on the second Tuesday of the months of September, November, March, and May at rotating sites. Meetings are preceded by an educational program and dinner. The educational program and dinner are free to local chapter members. Non-members may attend for a nominal fee.
